Symptoms associated with unhealthy cholesterol levels are uncommon, so it can be difficult to appreciate the benefit of staying on your medication. You may not see that your cholesterol is improving until the next time you visit your doctor for a cholesterol blood test.

To help you stay committed to treatment with SIMCOR, try these tips:

Set an alarm for the same time every night, about 30 minutes before your usual bedtime. The alarm will remind you to take your aspirin or ibuprofen (with your doctor's approval) 30 minutes before you take your SIMCOR to help manage flushing.

Plan low-fat snacks ahead of time. Plan ahead from week to week for the low-fat snack you will have with your medication. For low-fat recipes, check out the American Heart Association's Delicious Decisions website, www.deliciousdecisions.org.

Use a calendar and check off each night you take your SIMCOR. You can also use a medication dispenser with the days of the week to help you stay on track.

Track your progress. Use the Cholesterol Tracker to keep track of your cholesterol numbers with each visit to the doctor. Seeing that you are making progress toward your cholesterol goals can help you stay motivated.
